Stop Second-Guessing

I just made a command decision, it took a lot of mulling over but my decision is final. Or is it. This is where I start second guessing my judgement. We’ve all felt it before – that deceptive feeling of self- doubt. If left unchecked self- doubt will have you for breakfast! It has a way of getting under your skin and before long you will be questioning or second-guessing all your decisions and thoughts.
If you struggle with making decisions and find yourself second guessing, you need to ask yourself ‘Why?’ Are their new risks involved in your decision - Is your pursuit contrary to your personality? Are you forcing something to happen before its time?
The Voice of Reason
Inside each and every one of us is our very own voice of reason. Some know it to be their gut instinct, some see it as intuition. Cartoons have depicted it as an angel sitting on your shoulder telling you the right path to take. This voice is logic; reasonable and sensible. The decision will not be based on emotions, passions or wants. It’s fair to say your voice of reason may have you make a decision you know to be right for everybody else but not so right for you. Listen to your intuition! Forget about the fine tuning of details, if they are necessary, that will come later.
The Matter of Perspective
What may be good for you may not be perfect for some-one else. Balance the scales by respecting your doubts and then leaving them where they should be. Complicating matters by stressing over issues that may not arise can alter your perspective on your decision-making abilities. While initial second-guessing can be introspective – keeping us from making a wrong decision - it gives us the ability to judge our awareness of the evidence giving us a fine tuned perspective. The right attitude of positivity, persistence and faith helps create the right perspective.
The Love of Reassurance
It’s important to have support and reassurance from others – we are only human. Strengthen your self-love by realizing that multiple perspectives can help you see clearly. Certainly, reassurance from friends and family showing that you’re not the only one who has these moments of second- guessing of self-doubt can help you.
No one said decision-making is easy but one thing is certain - anyone who has made a bad decision can say is – I have lived and learned. Make decisions in faith knowing that your experiences will teach you what you need to learn.
