Climate Strike For Action Heard World-Wide
On a recent trip to Brisbane I was handed a pamphlet at a crowded market in the mall and as I negotiated my way to a vacant seat I read it.
It read: The Global Strike 4 Climate protest would be held on September 20.
I've never been to a protest before and would of loved to have gone but unfortunately I was flying back home later that afternoon and so would miss it.
The Global climate rallies are part of a strike movement led by 16-year-old Swedish activist, Greta Thunberg.
The young woman with Aspergers started out by protesting alone outside Sweden's Parliament last year and since then people from all over the world have rallied behind her for Climate Action.
The Global Strike 4 Climate protest saw thousands of people across the country take part, all standing in solidarity, in favour of stronger action on climate change.
One hundred and ten towns and cities around Australia supported the event and millions more were expected to join the protests across the world.
The Australian protesters called for the Federal Government to commit to:
1. No new coal, oil or gas projects
2. 100 per cent renewable energy generation and exports by 2030
3. Funding for "a just transition and job creation for all fossil fuel industry workers and communities"
